How to Install Travertine Pavers?

Travertine pavers can be installed on concrete or sand/dirt/base rock. Each step along the installation must be taken carefully, so final project would be smooth. We suggest to work with professional installers, but you can also install these travertine pavers by yourself.

First of all, you need to have all your material ready.

Secondly, if you are installing French Pattern (Versailles) Pavers, make sure to have the layout, handy.

You can choose dry-set or mud-set during installation. These decision depens on your climate. If you are not sure which one to choose, you can choose dry-set method. This method is perfect for anywhere in the US. Also, if you have any problem with couple of pieces of pavers, you can easily change the pavers with Dry-set method. Here are the steps:

  1. Prepare your soil : You need to compact your soil. If you don't have smooth base, your pavers will not be stable. Clean the area, make sure there is no tree roots or flowers or grass. Soil should not be too dry or moist.

  2. Border: Cover the perimeter of the area, that paver will be installed. For borders, smaller sizes are suggested, like 8x8 pavers, or 8x16 Travertine Pavers.

  3. Gravel and sand: After creating border, 6" or 8" of gravel should be laid down. Base rock or crushed limestone would work just fine. This is an essential step to ensure drainage. Compact gravel as you go. After compacting the gravel, 1/2" sand should be added on top of the gravel.

  4. Lay down your Pavers: After you compacted your gravel and sand, it is now time to install travertine pavers. If you are installing French Pattern Pavers, please follow the instructions. Sometimes, you need to cut pavers to fit perfectly to your design or design. Do not leave any space in between the pavers, otherwise in the future, grass may grow.

  5. Polymeric sand or grout: After Installing pavers, we suggest to use polymeric sand to fill the gaps in between the pavers and also cover the holes on the travertine pavers. So, you can also prevent any dirt to stuck in these holes. Before applying your polymeric sand, you need to clean and power wash your travertine pavers.

  6. Color enhancer: If you want to see your pavers, always shiny and wet, with polymeric sand you can apply color enhancer.
